This year, ChemCon is once again taking part in the wvib’s annual donation campaign, supporting two Freiburg-based organizations that provide essential social services: the Bürgerschaftsstiftung Soziales Freiburg and the Haus des Lebens. Both institutions accompany people through difficult life situations and make an important contribution to social cohesion in our region.
Haus des Lebens – Support and New Perspectives for Young Mothers
The Haus des Lebens offers a safe environment for pregnant women in crisis and young mothers who need intensive guidance. It helps them find stability and build a future for themselves and their children.
A young mother who has lived there with her daughter for three years shared her story, which we would like to pass on in her own words:
“I moved in during the eighth month of my pregnancy… I had many problems and often couldn’t fully connect with my baby. At the Haus des Lebens, there was always someone there to show me how to handle things. Through short video sequences, I learned what I was doing well — and slowly, I began to enjoy the good moments with my child. Today, I have started vocational training and I am proud of what I have achieved.”
Her journey represents many other women who find courage, stability, and guidance here — supported by a dedicated team available around the clock.

Bürgerschaftsstiftung Soziales Freiburg – Giving Time, Creating Connection
The Bürgerschaftsstiftung Soziales Freiburg supports people experiencing acute social hardships and creates moments of connection that go far beyond classical support structures.
One particularly moving example is the accompaniment of a blind couple from Chemnitz who wished to explore Freiburg as tourists. A volunteer time donor guided the couple through the city together with her husband — six hours full of orientation, storytelling, and shared impressions.
Their heartfelt reflection at the end of the day speaks for itself:
“If we come back next year, would you accompany us again — maybe even to the Alsace region?”
This story shows how powerful it can be to give a bit of time and personal attention.
