Welcoming Prof. Dr. Vahrenkamp to ChemCon

ChemCon recently welcomed a very special guest: Prof. Dr. Vahrenkamp, the doctoral supervisor of our founders, Dr. Peter Gockel and Dr. Raphael Vogler, visited our facilities in Freiburg.

During a tour of our synthesis and analytical departments, he gained an insight into ChemCon’s work today, from small-scale chemistry projects to advanced analytical services. His repeated exclamation “Mein lieber Scholli!” (a German expression of genuine amazement) made for several memorable moments along the way.

The visit also took us back to the origins of our company. In the early 1990s, Peter Gockel and Raphael Vogler were working on the synthesis of bioinorganic complexes at the University of Freiburg. Their scientific expertise inspired the idea of developing and manufacturing highly potent specialty active ingredients for pharmaceutical applications.

In 1997, they founded ChemCon as a spin-off from the University of Freiburg. What began as a consulting business, with its first API synthesis conducted in a six-litre three-necked flask, has since developed into an internationally active CDMO for demanding chemical projects.

Today, we support our customers from process and analytical method development through comprehensive analytical services to the GMP manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients for clinical and commercial applications.

Nearly three decades later, ChemCon remains closely connected to its scientific roots. This made Prof. Dr. Vahrenkamp’s visit particularly meaningful to us. Thank you for the personal exchange and for joining us in looking back at how far ChemCon has come.
